Introducing Preflight

Posted by Jason on May 13th, 2011

In the last half of last year I made a decision to start moving away from freelance video work and into software development. Specifically, development for the Mac and iOS. Today I’m happy to announce that my first iOS app, Preflight, is available for sale on the App Store.

What is Preflight?

Preflight was designed to be a quick and easy way to take notes and make short lists of things needing to get done.

There are no shortage of task-management apps on the App Store. I don’t expect to redefine the category. But I’ve yet to find a to-do list app that really works for me, so I thought I’d do something about it. I felt like it would be a good first project to go after.

Preflight is currently US $0.99.

What’s Next?

I’m already working on version 1.1 which will include a few big updates and a few small ones. I’ll probably be looking at initial feedback too, trying to incorporate what I can into the next release.

If you have any feedback for me, I’d love to hear it. I can be reached (for app-related inquires) at jason [at] flightdivision.com. Thanks, I hope you enjoy Preflight.

That is really cool Jason. Congratulations.

Have I told you that you’re awesome lately? Because you are. This is awesome and I’m super excited for you.

  3. TJ Kelly says:

Jason, I searched for “preflight” in the App Store, but can’t find it. Will it take time to propagate or something? Or am I doing something wrong?

Hey Jason, I am about to grab Preflight from the app store and wanted to say thanks! I have been wanting a very simple todo app forever! The only thing I would like to see is syncing. Google tasks and Catch notes support would be awesome. Good on you for tackling something new! Also, your site is gorgeous. :)

  5. John MacAdam says:

Just bought the app. Nicely done :)

I’m always asking myself: Is there an iPhone app that can do this simpler/quicker? This seems to answer the question for a couple of my existing apps!

  6. Erik says:

Wow, I know I’m late to the party finding out you’ve shifted into doing this iOS work, but am so impressed. I’m going to go check it out now.

  7. Jason says:

Hey Erik! Thanks. Preflight is pretty bare-bones basic, but thanks for checking it out. I’ve been working with another guy on client stuff and we just submitted our first joint client project yesterday. I’m pretty excited about it and I’m sure I’ll post when it’s launched. I hope things are going well for you. It looks like Ushahidi has been growing pretty well, and that you’re continuing to help grow the African tech community. Pretty awesome.

  8. I downloaded the newest version of your app with high hopes. Unfortunately, it crashed every time I opened it. Even when I deleted it and re-installed it I was unable to get the app to launch or load ro do anything. I’m sure you’re aware of this issue but I thought I’d mention it here. Let me know if there’s a fix (or if this app is supposed to be Lion only since I’m running Snow Leopard). Thanks.

  9. Jason says:

Hi Zachary. Sorry you’re having problems with Preflight. The 1.1 update focused on moving people from Snow Leopard to Lion, which apparently also killed support for Snow Leopard. This was unintended. I actually just submitted an updated to Apple that changes the system requirement to Lion until I can figure out and solve the Snow Leopard problem. Thanks for taking the time to write me about this. And again, sorry that it’s not working for you. Hopefully I can figure something out soon.
